THE INVESTOR MERLOT
John Riddoch invested heavily into the southeast of south Australia, both financially and with his determination, persistence and hard work. But it was his personal investment into the Penola fruit colony, sparing it from collapse during the economic depression of the 1890s, that perhaps has had the most enduring effect on the fortunes of Coonawarra.
